I Could Have Stored Stuff in There

I had to have a tree cut down in my yard today, because it's possible that it could have fallen on the house. I was skeptical at first, because it looked relatively healthy at the top, with green leaves and everything, but my neighbor/landscaper said it had been struck by lightning and had to go. As you can see, he was right. I've never seen a tree that hollow before, and apparently it was like that all the way to the top.

I've figured the one to the right, in the same clump, would go eventually, because it's leaned quite a bit for years. I suspect it's hollow, too, but it will fall away from the house.

(thanks to my 2nd MFR for the photos!)

First Day of Spring

It seems very fitting that I went outside at lunchtime today and saw actual itty-bitty leaves on the oaks on the Academic Quad on West Campus. Hillsborough isn't nearly as far along as Durham, so at home the trees are still bare.

You Can Read What I Might Read

I had so much fun adding my widget containing posts from blogs that I read daily that I added another one for posts from blogs that I read somewhat less often. It's down on the left, below the flickr feed.

I actually have plenty of new things to write about, but I think I'm going to get some sleep instead.

(The photo is of the oak tree that is just to the left of my garage. It's always just turned brown before.)

I Still Hate Winter

Today we've been waiting for the impending frozen precipitation. They've been predicting sleet and snow, anywhere from 1-4 inches. Last time I looked outside, it was snowing very hard. Snowing hard seems like a weird thing to say for something so soft, but it was really coming down.

Not long after I finished with my kitchen elevations this early afternoon, I started working. I've been trying to get some stuff done, to hopefully make the week a little easier. My meeting with the cabinet maker was postponed until later this week, but at least I'm prepared.

Half of one of my molars broke off last night, so I had to eat carefully today. I've been kind of bummed about it, because it was a nice large tooth, even though a quarter of it had broken once before. I need to go to the dentist, but I don't think I'll be able to if there is frozen snow gunk on the ground. Hopefully, it will melt soon.

The only good thing about winter is that you can see the branches of interesting trees, such as oaks. I would still prefer to see leaves.
