Beckoning Bumblebee

I was going to make a mad dash for lunch and get back to the office as quickly as possible, but I couldn't resist photographing this Gaillardia aristata, particularly after the bumblebee started posing. After looking at this bumblebee identification chart, I decided that I would leave that as an exercise for my readers.

Stopping to snap the Gaillardia aristata is a nice variation on stopping to smell the roses. :) I got nothin' re: the bumblebee.

I'm the furthest thing from an expert, but I think that's a honeybee rather than a bumblebee -- bumbles are the big, slow, buzzy ones with large hair-covered abdomens.

  3. Beautiful picture. The flower looks like the sun itself.

  4. It may not be a bumblebee, but it's definitely not a honeybee, unfortunately. Hopefully someone will identify it for us, so we can be enlightened. :)
