
Taking photos of butterflies has always been fairly challenging for me, because they don't exactly sit still for you.

That's why I'm sharing all three photos of what I believe is the dark form of the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (
Papilio glaucus). It's sitting on
verbena bonariensis.

This way I don't have to decide which of the three photos to leave out.
UPDATE: Many thanks to
Jeff Pippen for identifying this as a Spicebush Swallowtail (
Papilio troilus).
